Memberships and class passes are the pricing options that Momoyoga offers. Yogis can purchase these pricing options from the class schedule. With a valid membership or class pass, yogis can book classes with your studio. That's why knowing the difference between memberships and class passes is important. But what's the difference exactly? And when should you offer memberships and when class passes?
Memberships
Memberships allow yogis to book classes within a certain timeframe. A regular membership expires after the indicated timeframe has passed. Recurring memberships, on the other hand, are renewed automatically every month. Read more about the difference between regular memberships and recurring memberships.
Let's say you want to offer your yogis a 3 months summer program with unlimited credits at a discounted rate. Creating a class pass for this offer wouldn't make sense since it would be an unlimited program for a definite period of time. There's no need to work with a credit-based system because the number of classes offered or attended in the program isn't important. Creating a membership for this offer that expires after the summer, on the other hand, would make more sense.
Class passes
When you have yogis who prefer attending one class a week for a period of, say, 6 months, it makes more sense to offer a class pass for this type of activity level. That's because class passes concern the number of classes rather than the period of time. Class passes use a credit-based system; one credit equals one class.
For the yogis who attend a class one day a week for 6 months, offering a class pass with a value of (1*4=4*6=) 24 credits—that's valid for at least 6 months—would be a fitting pricing option. For each class a yogi books, the system automatically deducts one credit. For each class the yogi cancels within the set cancellation window, the system automatically refunds the credit.
The examples given above are very basic and with a little creativity, you could create almost any type of membership or class pass that fits the needs of your studio and yogis best.
An important note about credits
Momoyoga is set up using a credit-based system. This means 1 credit is equal to 1 class. Because each class may vary by type (e.g. online or studio class, private session, workshop) and duration (e.g. 30-minute, 1 hour, 3 hour), you may want to set up different pricing options (memberships or class passes) with different price points for your offerings.
