We will guide you through the process of creating online yoga classes. Or switch your current class schedule into an online class schedule. One step at a time. Don’t worry. We’ll make sure the process is quick and simple. You’ll be setup and ready to go in minutes. It might look a bit overwhelming, but we ensure you: You can do this. And we’re here to help. Always.
Step 1. Decide which classes you would like to teach online
Log into your Momoyoga account and go to the Classes section. If you have not set up your account yet, we advise you to give yourself a head-start by reading and following the 7 steps to setup success.
Take a look at your current class schedule and decide which classes you would like to teach online. It’s a good habit to start small. With just a few classes a week. Build it up from there. Start with your most popular classes.
Step 2. Consider special offers
It’s up to you how to price your online classes. Some studios price their online classes slightly different from their ‘regular’ classes. You’ve got plenty of options here. For example: you could teach shorter classes (like 30 mins), offer classes at a reduced price, offer a free try-out class or even teach based on donation (pay as you like) completely. Another option is to enable your yogis to purchase a class or class pass as a gift to a friend. Yoga is a great way to unwind, relax and ground. What better gift than yoga, to cheer up a friend?
Step 3. Find a video service to host your online yoga classes
Most yoga studios decide to use Zoom, which is an easy-to-use video conferencing tool. You can use Zoom in combination with Momoyoga perfectly. Other commonly used options are Whereby, Google Hangouts and Skype. Which you can also easily use in combination with Momoyoga. Basically, it’s up to you which platform you would like to use. In this guide, we will explain to you how to combine Momoyoga with Zoom.
Step 4. Create your Zoom account
Create a free Zoom account by Signing up here. After registration, an email will be sent to you with a link to activate your account. By clicking this link, you will be redirected to the Zoom website where you can enter your name and create a password.
After confirming your login information, you are prompted to invite your “colleagues” (read: yogis). Just skip that step.
Optionally you can install Zoom on your computer, or just resume in using the online (web) version. Both will just do fine.
Step 5. Create your meeting on Zoom
- Go to Zoom and log in
- Click Meetings
- Click Schedule a New Meeting and fill out all fields. Click here to view a Zoom tutorial on scheduling a meeting
- Make sure to Copy the invitation and keep it aside for now
- Click Save
Step 6. Combine Zoom with Momoyoga
- Go to Momoyoga and Log in
- Go to the Classes section
- Select the class that you would like to teach online, and click Edit class
- Select the option This is an online class
- Add the Zoom invitation (from step 5.4) link to the field: Link to the online class
- Fill out the Additional information field with the Link to the online class, Meeting ID and the password if you decided to use them. You can also add any additional instructions to the class.
- Select Send automatic email before class starts. This email will be sent to your yogis 30 minutes before the class starts.
Step 7. Create a home studio
Create a space where you can teach your classes. Use as much natural light as you can and supplement with additional lighting if necessary. Make sure the room is bright enough for the yogis to see you clearly. Clear a space for your asana practice and roll out your mat. Try to create a calming and tasteful setting without any distractions in the form of objects. Pick a spot to place your laptop and turn your camera on. Test if you and your mat are clearly visible. Make adjustments if it’s needed.
Step 8. Promote your online classes
Make sure your community knows that you’re teaching online classes. Give them the opportunity to support you. For example, send emails or newsletters using a platform like Mailchimp, or use social media to spread the word with the link to your online schedule (www.momoyoga.com/yourstudioname) or to the online class directly. Use the Share class link found under each class in Momoyoga.
Yogis will book and pay for classes just like before. They will receive the information for the online class 30 minutes before the class starts. Most studios take this opportunity to also share some tips on how to get comfortable to attend a yoga class from home. You can add these tips to the Additional information field as shown in step 6.6.
Step 9. ‘Test drive’ with a friend
We suggest that you test the process with a friend, before teaching your first online class. Add your friend as a yogi to the class in Momoyoga. 30 minutes before class starts, your friend will receive an email with the details of your class. Start the class by heading to the Zoom meeting, and wait for your friend to join you. Turn your camera and sound on, and test if the setting, sound and lighting are working well for the both of you.
Step 10. Ready, set, teach!
A few minutes before class starts, go to Zoom and click Start meeting. Give your yogis a warm welcome to your first online yoga class.
Teaching virtual yoga may be challenging at first- but from our experience, teachers will find their way in the world of online yoga in no-time. Remember teaching your first-ever yoga class. It took time to prepare. It took guts. In return, it gave you energy and an immense sense of pride.
